Padma Durga fort, an island fort located off the Murud coast, still standing in the open sea. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj built this fort to check the Siddis of Janjira. Amidst frequent attacks from Siddi to halt the construction the fort was completed in 1676 .
The fort is comparatively small than the Janjira fort. It was built on an island just a mile away from the shore line, hence also known as Kansa Killa. The high walls of fortification, bastions, ramparts are still intact and in good shape. The lotus shape merlons are the unique part of this fort, hence the name Padma Durga (पद्म – कमळ पडकोट). The main fort is square in shape. The remaining area of the island was secured with an outer fortification wall, that’s now in remnants state.
